WASHINGTON – Ten Soldiers from the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program and U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit visited the White House on Oct. 7.

They were among more than 500 members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams who thanked President Bush and first lady Laura for their support of the Olympic movement throughout the Beijing Games

Air Force Captain Finishes 23rd in Olympic Modern Pentathlon

U.S. Air Force World Class Athlete Program Capt. Eli Bremer swims to a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle portion of the Olympic men's modern pentathlon with a time of 2 minutes, 2.80 seconds Aug. 21 in Beijing. Bremer, 30, of Colorado Springs, Colo., eventually finished 23rd in the five-sports-in-one-day event that includes pistol shooting, fencing, swimming, equestrian riding and cross-country running.

BEIJING – At age 56, U.S. Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Elizabeth “Libby” Callahan became the oldest U.S. female competitor in Olympic history with a 25th-place finish in the women’s 25-meter pistol shooting event Aug. 13 at the Beijing Shooting Range Hall.

BEIJING – U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Spc. Walton Glenn Eller III set two Olympic records en route to winning a gold medal in double trap at the Beijing Shooting Range on Aug. 12. USAMU teammate Spc. Jeffrey Holguin finished fourth in the event.

BEIJING – It rained on what might have been four-time Olympian Bret Erickson’s final appearance on the world’s grandest shotgun shooting stage, literally and figuratively.

Former U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Sgt. 1st Class (ret.) Erickson competed in the Barcelona, Atlanta and Athens Olympic games, but finished in a four-way tie for 21st place in the trap event in Beijing Aug. 10.

“This year, truthfully, I absolutely 100 percent believed was my year,” said Erickson, 47, a native of Bennington, Neb., who lives in Muenster, Texas. “I was ahead of schedule all year long. ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Sixteen members of the U.S. Army Family will compete, coach or serve as training partners for Team USA at the 29th Olympic Games Aug. 8-24 in Beijing.

U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program teammates Staff Sgt. Dremiel Byers (right) and Spc. Timothy Taylor square off in the Greco-Roman 264.5-pound finals of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. Byers won the best-of-three series and will wrestle for Team USA in the Olympic Games on Aug. 14 in Beijing. Taylor will accompany Byers to China and serve as his training partner. U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program Greco-Roman heavyweight wrestler Staff Sgt. Dremiel Byers will compete in the 264.5-pound weight class on Aug. 14.

Byers, a world champion in 2002, will be accompanied in China by WCAP teammate and training partner Spc.
